Artist Statement

Pastel is my medium because I love the inherent qualities of immediacy and directness that Pastel contains. This medium feels like it is about touch, texture, contrasting surfaces and, like drawing...my first love.
My subject matter is diverse including the Northern California landscape that surrounds me and the wildlife and flora within. I paint Plein Air and in my studio. My creative process is exhilarating, absorbing, gentle and meditative. Each painting experience is unique yet, my goal for all my paintings, is to capture a degree of Nature's mutable, dynamic and passionate spirit, joy and beauty.
