Eastern Point resident Katherine Coakley has had a lifelong affinity for art. Ten years ago, she picked up a paintbrush for the first time experimenting with acrylics and watercolors. Later, she took up oil painting and now concentrates primarily on oil landscapes of scenic Cape Ann locales. During the winter, Coakley continues her passion for warm weather landscapes, painting in Miami Beach, Florida. She has studied at the Artcenter on Lincoln Road in Miami Beach.
Locally, Coakley has done oil painting and watercolor workshops with numerous Cape Ann artists. She is an associate member of the North Shore Arts Association and Rockport Art Association.
Kathy and her husband Peter have three daughters and six grandchildren.
Kathy enjoys painting "en plein air," one of her frequented sites is the country's oldest art colony Rocky Neck in Gloucester, MA. She enjoys using paint to capture Cape Ann's unique light. Kathy's favorite medium is oil, but she also enjoys exploring other media and techniques including monotypes and mosaics.
