Painting & Printmaking

Artist Statement

Mother Earth both inspires and challenges me as I try to listen and respond to a rapidly changing planet. As many indigenous people know, we have been dreaming the wrong dream for the Earth and only now are we awakening to that fact.

The images of animals and nature in my artwork are my attempt to honor the life forms I meet in waking time, in dreams and in journeys. My intent is that once again animals, trees and all life forms will be revered as we learn to see them as sacred.

I've learned over time that the image itself will tell me what medium to use in creating it...and so I use many different ones. Each one has a particular quality to play with as the work evolves. The joy of having such diversity to work with is endless.

Each painting instills a deep sense of hope within me. "This world will be saved by Beauty" wrote Dostoyevsky, and I believe it. And while it is also true that "beauty lies in the eye of the beholder," there's a longing within me to create Beauty that will bring healing to my own heart and to share that with others.
