Artist Statement

I am obsessed with the organic circular. This is an image buried deep in my 1950's past and is the driving psychological energy behind my art making. I aspire to create works which convey this energy and passion to the viewer.
I am fascinated by line and marks made by the soul of the hand. I do not plan/sketch out my paintings. The spontaneous energy of that process is directly in the work and that is what I find most precious about art.

CARE AND HANDLING OF ENCAUSTIC WORKS

Encaustic painting is an age-old process that dates back to Greco-Roman Egypt. It involves heating beeswax and damar resin, applying the liquid quickly and then fusing the wax to the canvas using heat. The resulting finish is durable and will withstand normal fluctuations in temperature. Do not store it wrapped in plastic or in a place that will endure temperature extremes (i.e. attic, basement, especially your car trunk). It will crack if subject to freezing temperatures. It will soften and possibly melt if subject to extememd heat (treat it like a video tape, do not leave it in your car during hot days).

The surface is subject to scratching so be careful when transporting. It is best to cover it with a towel or blanket or even white paper during transportation. The surface can be dusted and buffed with a dry cloth, this will bring up the shine.

This piece can be hung anywhere indoors, but like any artwork, but kept out of direct sunlight or next to heating elements.
